What the Beloved Will Do

Beware! Don’t despair if the Beloved turns you down.

If He sends you away today,

might He not call you to Himself tomorrow?

If He shuts the door on you, wait there and don’t go away.

After testing your patience,

He will give you the seat of honor.

And if He bars all the ways and passes over you,

later He will show you the hidden way that no one knows.

When a butcher slaughters a ewe with a dagger and chops its head off,

he doesn’t abandon it but takes it with him.

When the ewe’s breath is gone, he fills it with his own breath.

So see to what wonderful places God’s breath takes you.

But I offer this as just an example;

surely His generosity does not kill anyone

but will save from killing.

He will grant the whole kingdom of Solomon to an ant.

He will give away the two worlds

to prevent frightening a single heart.

My heart wandered through the whole world

and found none like Him.

Who is like Him in this world? Who does He resemble?

Shhhhh! Be silent! Without speech He will cause everyone to taste this wine;

surely, He will cause everyone to taste this wine.
